Terms of Service

SmoothTake Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of SmoothTake: Screen Recorder for macOS, provided by Adam Archuleta.

Effective October 16, 2026Your recordings remain yoursNo account required

1. Agreement and App Purpose

By using SmoothTake, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. SmoothTake is a local screen-recording and editing tool for capturing selected Mac content and producing videos with features such as zooms, cursor effects, backgrounds, and captions.

2. App Store License and Pricing

App Store downloads are subject to Apple's applicable usage rules and the license supplied with the app. Unless a custom end user license agreement is supplied through the App Store, the license is Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. These Terms supplement, and do not replace, that license. The applicable App Store license controls any conflict about the scope of the app license.

This version does not require a SmoothTake account or subscription. Any applicable download price is shown by the App Store before you obtain the app. Downloading this version does not authorize charges for future products or features. Any future optional purchases would require separate disclosure and authorization.

3. Your Recordings and Other Content

You retain any rights you hold in your recordings, narration, captions, and imported content. We do not claim ownership of that content. You may use your exported videos for personal or commercial purposes, provided you have the necessary rights to everything they contain. SmoothTake's software, branding, and design remain the property of their respective owners.

The ability to record an app, meeting, website, image, wallpaper, music, or other material does not give you permission to copy or distribute it. You are responsible for the rights and permissions needed to record, import, edit, and share your content.

4. Responsible Recording and Acceptable Use

Obtain any notices, authorizations, or consent required to record another person's voice, communications, screen, or personal information. Recording and privacy requirements vary by location and situation. Use SmoothTake only where you are authorized to do so.

  • Do not use the app for unlawful surveillance or to violate another person's privacy or intellectual property rights.
  • Do not use the app to bypass access controls or copy protected content where prohibited.
  • Do not interfere with, damage, or misuse the app or others' systems.
  • Respect the applicable app license and any rights granted by law or open-source licenses.

5. Local Files, Privacy, and Backups

SmoothTake stores drafts and edits locally. You control exported files and any storage, syncing, or backup services you use. Review recordings for sensitive information before sharing them. Keep separate backups of important source recordings and editable projects; an exported movie is not a replacement for an editable project backup.

Deleting a draft can remove the original media and edits it contains. Deleting the app or a draft does not necessarily remove exports, copies, or backups. We do not maintain a server-side recording library and cannot guarantee recovery of lost, damaged, or deleted files. See the SmoothTake Privacy Policy for information handling and deletion details.

6. Requirements and Automatic Features

Features depend on your Mac, macOS version, available storage, performance, and permissions. Automatic caption generation requires macOS 26 or later, a supported Mac and language, and a language model that may need to be downloaded through Apple. Availability can vary.

Automatic zooms, pacing suggestions, cursor processing, and captions may need manual adjustment and can be inaccurate. Review suggested edits and caption text before exporting. Exporting in 4K or another larger size does not recover detail absent from the original capture. No particular recording quality, transcription accuracy, or result is guaranteed.

7. Availability and Disclaimers

We may release updates or change features and compatibility over time. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, permanent feature availability, or compatibility with every device, app, or future operating system. Test your setup before an important recording and check that a recording and export completed successfully.

To the extent permitted by law, SmoothTake is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of uninterrupted operation, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these Terms removes statutory warranties or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Liability and Your Legal Rights

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of SmoothTake, including lost recordings, data, profits, or opportunities. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, rights, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your applicable App Store license and mandatory consumer laws continue to apply.

9. Changes and Contact

We may update these Terms as SmoothTake evolves. The effective date above identifies the published version. Any changes remain subject to applicable law and the app's license. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you can stop using the app.
